Living a Life that Pleases God

You might wonder, “How can I live a life that truly pleases God?” It’s a question that resonates deeply with many of us. We often think that pleasing God is about doing more—more good deeds, more church activities, more sacrifices. But what if I told you that pleasing God is more about the posture of your heart than the actions you perform?

The Heart of Pleasing God

Pleasing God is about the desire of your heart to live in a way that honors Him. It’s not about a checklist of good deeds but about a genuine relationship with Him. The Apostle Paul, in his letters to the early churches, emphasized this heart posture. In Colossians 1:9-10, Paul prays that the believers would be “filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,” so they may “walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him.”

Paul understood that the more we know God, the more we fall in love with Him, and the more we desire to please Him. This isn’t head knowledge; it’s heart knowledge. It’s about knowing God intimately and letting that relationship guide your actions.

How to Live a Life that Pleases God

  1. Seek to Know God More Deeply
    • Why it matters: The more you know God, the more you will love Him and want to please Him.
    • Action step: Spend time in prayer and in the Word, asking God to reveal more of Himself to you.
  2. Walk by Faith, Not by Sight
    • Why it matters: Hebrews 11:6 tells us that “without faith, it is impossible to please Him.” Faith is foundational to our relationship with God.
    • Action step: Trust God in your daily life, even when circumstances are challenging. Believe that He is and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
  3. Live Uprightly and Honestly
    • Why it matters: God delights in those who walk in integrity and truth (Proverbs 12:22).
    • Action step: Commit to living a life of honesty and integrity, even when it’s difficult. Let your actions reflect your faith.
  4. Obey God’s Commands
    • Why it matters: Obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). Jesus Himself said that He came to do the will of the Father (John 6:38).
    • Action step: Make a conscious effort to obey God’s commands in your daily life. Start with small steps and build from there.
  5. Cultivate a Heart of Humility and Repentance
    • Why it matters: God shows grace to the humble and delights in a contrite heart (Psalm 51:17).
    • Action step: When you fall short, come before God with a humble heart, seeking His forgiveness and grace.

Conclusion:

The point is clear: God desires a heart that seeks to please Him. It’s not about perfection but about a genuine relationship with Him. What will you do this week to cultivate a heart that pleases God? Will you seek to know Him more, walk by faith, live uprightly, obey His commands, and cultivate humility and repentance?

Prayer:
